So what is Abundant Genealogy?

If you’ve ever attended one of my lectures, either in-person or via webinar, you’ve probably heard me mention that my genealogy business uses the “abundance model.” Many businesses starting in the late 20th century began to embrace a similar model; the best known being Google.

For me, abundance means “giving” and doing so without overly-focusing on what I get back. I worked in the Information Technology field for over 25 years and one of the practices that I absolutely despised was the “hoarding” of knowledge. Have you ever worked with someone who would only share what they knew in exchange for something else?

When I was laid off during the Great Recession in 2008, I decided to start my own business and I was committed to not repeating the poor practices I witnessed in other companies. Here’s how it works here at Abundant Genealogy . . . all based on a bit of knowledge that my mother once shared with me:

“You can’t hold on to anything in this life – knowledge, memories, family photos – with a tight grip. You need to let them go so that you can hold that hand with the palm up . . . to receive the next good thing coming your way.”
