So many of you know I often say “I have a face made for radio” which is why I do so many webinars. Well now I can add to that “And I have a voice made for print” thanks to this new Alexa skill – Genealogy Update – available on Amazon.

I have an Amazon Echo (which was my Christmas gift to myself during the Black Friday sales) and I LOVE IT! I can just ask Alexa about the current weather, what the currency conversion rate is for the Euro, and even gets news from Reuters, Washington Post, CNN and more!

So, and you all know how my mind works – I thought it would be great if I could spread the good news about genealogy and family history using Alexa. I’ve been working on this for several months and I’m happy to announce the new Genealogy Update via Alexa!

What is an Alexa Skill? What is a Flash Briefing?

If you have an Alexa device or the Alexa app, you should be able to log in on your Alexa page and add certain features including Flash Briefings. Click HERE to learn more about flash briefings and Alexa skills over at Amazon.

There is NO CHARGE for this feature – you can click HERE to enable the Genealogy Update flash briefing. Once you have it set up, just say “Alexa, Genealogy Update” and you’ll hear my glorious voice over the ether!

My goal is to have an update EVERY DAY but I’ll soon find out if that is feasible or not. Also, in the initial stages, there may be some technical difficulties (such as low volume) which will need to be worked out.

Finally, I’ll have a graphic in the upper right corner of my websites with the Genealogy Update access page (click HERE). It will contain the link to the Alexa flash briefing, a built in player widget for those of you who don’t have an Alexa device, plus the written dialog of the briefing for the hearing impaired.

Can I add it to my current flash briefing? Or did it need to be separate?
