Giving Tuesday

Donate to Reclaim the Records this year on Giving Tuesday, November 27, 2018

Today, the day after Cyber Monday, has become Giving Tuesday over the past few years. Giving Tuesday offers an opportunity for many people to “give back” to their favorite charitable organizations.

One of my favorite non-profits right now is Reclaim the Records which is described as an advocacy group for public access to records used by genealogy researchers and others:

We’re Reclaim The Records, a new not-for-profit activist group of genealogists, historians, researchers, and open government advocates. We identify important genealogical records sets that ought to be in the public domain but which are being wrongly restricted by government archives, libraries, and agencies. We file Freedom of Information and Open Data requests to get that public data released back to the public. And if the government doesn’t comply, we take them to court. Then we digitize everything we win and put it all online for free, without any paywalls or usage restrictions, so that it can never be locked up again.

Today I have a fundraising effort underway over at Facebook (LINK) and I am matching any donation made up to $2,500 USD! This is a way for me as vendor to “give back” to the genealogy community. I want to thank all my followers who used my shopping and saving links at DNA Bargains and Genealogy Bargains over the past Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale period. Please consider donating to Reclaim the Records or to your favorite charity today, especially since Facebook and PayPal are matching donations up to $7 million USD and there are no transaction fees charged to the charity!

KODAK SCANZA Digital Film & Slide Scanner

Many followers know that I am a big advocate of digitizing home movies, slides, and photographs as soon as possible. What you may not know about these forms of media which I’m sure we all have, is that the materials begin to degrade and break down over time. This is also true if different media touch each other such as a negative sitting on a print photograph.

Here’s a new solution thanks to Kodak to getting all of those family memories available in digital format: the Kodak SCANZA is a digital negative and slide scanner. It’s on sale today at Amazon, and today only, at a savings of 48% – regularly $229.99 USD, now only $119.99 USD – LINK

The SCANZA converts 35mm, 126, 110, Super 8 & 8mm film negatives & slides to JPEG. It features a large, tilt-up 3.5” LCD, has easy-load film inserts, adapters & more. It is fast with 14 and 22 megapixl resolution settings.

“Convert film to file with cutting-edge innovation! Want to experience old memories without the pricy cost of conversion? With the Digital Film Scanner from Kodak, reliving the past is as simple as scan, save and share. This versatile film-to-JPEG converter digitizes and optimizes a variety of antiquated films including 35mm, 126, 110, Super 8 and 8mm negatives, enabling you to transfer images to any Mac or PC device for saving, sharing, printing and editing. Our all-in-one package comes ready with everything you need to start scanning: various film adapters and inserts, a built-in LCD color display, an exceptionally easy operational interface as well as multiple cables for device hookup. Don’t settle for less than superior image quality. Trust the giant of digital innovation.”
