MyHeritage LIVE User Conference Recap

It was an AMAZING weekend here in Oslo, Norway with over 450 attendees at the first-ever MyHeritage LIVE User Conference. I was honored to be one of several presenters (along with Dick Eastman, Lisa Louise Cooke, Diahann Southard and others) and one local attendee told me “this is the largest genealogy event we’ve ever had in Norway!”

Later today at Abundant Genealogy I’ll be offering a detailed recap of the two-day event including the major announcements from MyHeritage. One teaser: how would you like to extract your ancestor’s DNA from an artifact in your possession such as a postage stamp or envelope?

In addition I’ll have more information on the recordings of the live streamed sessions at MyHeritage LIVE 2018!

Who Do You Think You Are Returns to TLC!

TLC has announced a new season of the popular television show Who Do You Think You Are? featuring celebrities Josh Duhamel, Regina King, Mandy Moore and Matthew Morrison. The first episode featuring Mandy Moore who is shocked to discover ancestors who lived in Australia, debuts on Monday, December 3rd.

I noticed this is a “short season” with only four episodes compared to Season 10 in May 2018 which had six episodes. My take on this: these episodes may have been left over from the Season 10 production but never made it to broadcast and/or Ancestry is using WDYTYA as a vehicle to push AncestryDNA sales in December for the holiday season.

Check in on the full length article featuring a video from Who Do You Think You Are? over at Abundant Genealogy, and as they say . . . “Stay tuned!”

FREE ACCESS to Military Records at Ancestry

As if we didn’t already have enough news what with DNA price wars, Who Do You Think You Are? and MyHeritage LIVE, we find out that Ancestry is offering FREE ACCESS to over 250 million US military records at its site now through Monday, November 12th. A great way to honor your military ancestors is to locate records and trace the story of their service! Visit Genealogy Bargains for the access link and more details.

What’s On Sale Today at Genealogy Bargains

Are you familiar with Each day they scour the Internet for new deals of interest to genealogists and family historians. Here are some highlights:

  • FREE WEBINAR Using Voting and Election Records to Find Your Ancestor presented by Melissa Barker, Wednesday, November  7th, 2018, 1:00 pm Central – “Our ancestors voted in local, state and federal government elections. Many of our local, state and national archives, libraries and genealogical societies have election and voting records that could help genealogists find their ancestors. These records could include the polling places where your ancestor voted and even your ancestor’s signature.”
